about MontolaMontola was purchased by Sustainable Systems, LLC in October of 2005. Montola provides a fair and reliable market to farmers for increasingly important oil seed crops. These oilseed crops are used for both industrial and food applications. Our management is from Northeastern Montana and our shareholders believe in the importance of a strong agricultural community and therefore we run the company with an eye to what's good for the local economy. To accomplish these goals, Sustainable Systems, LLC has taken over the seed crushing facility in Culbertson, and offers oilseed contracts to local farmers. Montola will supply certified and proprietary Montola seed to participating farmers, with a guaranteed 100% buyback of the crop. Please check out our current crop contract today. WE'RE BUILDING A BRIGHTER FUTURE FOR MONTANA'S FARMERS AND RANCHERS. Montola is a Division of Sustainable Systems, LLC. We believe that agriculture is playing an increasingly important role in the energy security of our nation. We also believe that natural and healthy foods should remain a significant component of agriculture and that agriculture can and will provide for both a portion of our energy needs as well as continue to provide our food needs. We offer the best varieties of oilseeds for the maximum potential in farm sustainability - Farm sustainability encompasses profit, quality of life and environmental conservation. Sustainable farm operations equate to long term raw material supply for our processing facility(s) and for our customers who rely on our products.
The CropsThe Northern Plains region of North Dakota, Montana and South Dakota is a prime growing area for a number of oilseed crops. Growers in the region have produced oilseeds for many years. For example, as an excellent dry land crop, the safflower plant utilizes deeper soil moisture than traditional crops grown in the area. In addition, Canola provides an excellent rotation with small grains to break up weed, disease and pest cycles. New oilseeds and varieties are constantly in the development and production phase to support our growth oriented industry. Substantial oilseed research has been conducted at the Montana State University Ag Research Center, Sidney, MT. Partnerships with Sustainable Systems are leading to several new oilseed varieties in various stages of development. Oilseeds work well as a rotational crop in row crop and small grain operations. Most oilseed production does not require specialized farm equipment. These fertile plains produce some of the world’s finest oilseed.
Seed Types ProcessedThe FacilityThe Montola plant was originally built in 1956. Projects to improve and enhance through the years have resulted in a very versatile, efficient, and up to date facility.
